Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Revealed in India: Tiguan’s Bigger 7-Seater Rival?

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line unveiled in India showing premium 7-seater SUV design positioned above the Tiguan

Volkswagen has unveiled the Tayron R-Line in India as its new flagship SUV. Positioned above the Tiguan, it’s a premium 7-seater SUV with local CKD assembly already underway.

Volkswagen has unveiled the Tayron R-Line in India as its new flagship SUV, positioned above the Tiguan. The key talking point is its premium 7-seater (three-row) layout, which could make it Volkswagen’s most desirable family SUV for buyers upgrading from mid-size models.

As per current reports, Volkswagen is targeting a Q1 2026 introduction, with a March 2026 launch expected and the price announcement likely in February 2026. A major update is that local CKD assembly has already begun in India at Volkswagen’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) plant, which should help keep pricing more competitive than a full import.

Expected pricing is being discussed in the ₹45 lakh–₹50 lakh (ex-showroom) range, placing it directly in the premium 7-seater SUV space. Power is expected to come from a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine producing around 204hp, paired with an automatic gearbox.

In terms of features, the Tayron R-Line is expected to offer a strong premium package including a 15-inch touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, 360-degree camera, nine airbags, and safety aids like ESC, hill start and hill descent support.

Once launched, the Tayron R-Line is expected to rival the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and MG Gloster in India.
