French automaker Renault has officially launched its futuREady India strategy — an aggressive roadmap to make India one of its top three global markets by 2030. The plan was unveiled by François Provost, CEO of Renault Group, at the end of a week-long visit to Chennai, and covers new model launches, electrification, manufacturing expansion, and a massive export push.

Renault's India Comeback: From Under 1% to 5% Market Share

Renault once held 4% market share in India back in 2012, riding the popularity of the original Duster SUV. Today, due to a lack of new models, that figure has dropped to under 1%. With futuREady India, the company is targeting a full-scale comeback — aiming to reclaim 5% market share by 2030.

India is set to become one of Renault's top three global markets by the end of the decade, according to CEO François Provost. The timing is deliberate: Indian car sales are projected to reach 6 million units by 2030, a 36% jump from 2025, with rapid growth in SUVs and premium vehicles.

7 New Cars by 2030: Duster, Bridger & More

Renault plans a seven-model portfolio in India by 2030, starting with the Renault Duster unveiled in January 2026, which has already generated strong enthusiasm among buyers. The company also presented the Bridger Concept, previewing a new B-segment compact SUV with multi-energy options including an electric version.

The seven vehicles will be based on two complementary platforms — RGEP (Renault Group Entry Platform, underpinning Kwid, Kiger, Triber) and RGMP (Renault Group Modular Platform, underpinning Duster and Bridger) — both designed with a multi-energy approach supporting petrol, hybrid, and electric powertrains.

Renault expects EVs to account for roughly half of its India sales by 2030, with plans spanning hybrid, electric, and CNG powertrains. The company will also introduce sub-4-metre cars targeting the entry-level segment.

India as a Global Export & Tech Hub

Renault's ambitions go well beyond domestic sales. CEO Provost described India as "a technology hub, an export hub, and a strategic asset on a global scale," where the company will develop products and technologies for the world.

Renault's Chennai engineering centre employs around 6,000 engineers and IT specialists working on vehicle architecture, software, simulation, and lifecycle upgrades — and will now develop platforms and technologies for global markets, not just India.

The company is targeting €2 billion in annual exports by 2030, covering vehicles, R&D services, and components — with South America as a key destination.

Renault Forever: 7-Year Warranty for Indian Buyers

As part of the futuREady India rollout, Renault also announced the Renault Forever ownership program. This includes a 7-year warranty transferable to second owners, improved service quality, and a simplified customer ownership experience.

Why This Is a Big Deal

Renault sold 620,000 vehicles outside Europe in 2025, a rise of 11% from 2024. The company's broader global futuREady plan involves 36 new model launches by 2030, with 14 outside Europe — far more than the eight launched in the previous five years.

India joins South America and South Korea as Renault's three core international growth hubs. India alone represents more than one-third of the growth potential across Renault's existing international markets.

Bottom Line

The futuREady India strategy is Renault's most serious India commitment in over a decade. New Duster, the Bridger SUV concept, EVs, a 7-year warranty, and a €2 billion export target — if executed, this could genuinely transform India into the brand's most important market outside Europe by 2030.
